It is an open secret that Mauritius uses more pesticides per square kilometre of farmland than any other country in the world.
5ème students of the LLB’s International Section are spending the week on the island’s south coast, investigating ways in which forward-thinking farmers are developing responsible agricultural practices that protect the environment as well as human health.
Students are also researching the sustainability of the island’s energy supply, currently reliant on the burning of hydrocarbons.
On a tour of the Omnicane coal/bagasse power plant in Savannah, we learnt that coal will be phased out by 2030… to be replaced by wood!
After several years of covid disruption, we are thoroughly enjoying the games, hikes, and team building that the week has in store.
